The 1970's: A DECADE OF STYLE, MUSIC & MOVIES
February is Black History Month. The 1970's represented a decade of great style, music and movies. Below are two of my personal favorites.
Music:
The 1970's undoubtedly gave us the best music soul music. My favorite soul singer was born March 26, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA. Born Theodore DeReese Pendergrass, he was affectionately known as "Teddy Pendergrass" or "Teddy P."
Movies:
To me, there is nothing like the movies from the 1970's, specifically the "Blaxploitation" films. Blaxploitation films were the first to regularly feature soundtracks of funk and soul music as wells as primarily black casts. Blaxploitation films were controversial during their time, but have since made an enormous impact on American cinema. They are pure entertainment for me. Shaft released in 1971, is one of the films credited for beginning the genre of Blaxploitation. The star of Shaft, Richard Roundtree
